Why product pages fail AI assistants (and how to tell)
August 20, 2026

Most Shopify product pages are written for a shopper who already knows what they want. They lead with a SKU, a price, and a photo, and leave the material, fit, and use case as an afterthought, if they're mentioned at all.
That's a problem for AI assistants, which don't already know what they want either. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for a trail runner that handles mud, the assistant is looking for the exact details most listings skip: material, grip rating, and fit notes.
The three gaps we see most often
Missing use-case language, absent structured data, and inconsistent naming across variants. Any one of these is enough to keep a listing out of an AI recommendation. Together, they almost guarantee it.
