This store wrote answers for AI. AI couldn't find them.
Audio parts store · Electronics

The same 4 answers showed up when we asked small, exact questions instead.
Not on the product page, and not in the answers the store wrote for AI.
The store's written shipping policy was just a dot.
A shopper asks an AI assistant about a store's shipping and returns. The store has already written clear answers. The AI finds none of them.
That's what we found at a store we work with. It sells audio parts on Shopify.
The store had done the work. It wrote clear answers to the questions shoppers ask most, like where it ships and what shipping costs. It set them up so AI shopping assistants could read them.
So we looked at what AI actually gets.
The answers were there, but hidden
First, we asked the store one broad question, the same way an AI shopping assistant does: "What is your shipping and return policy?" Not one of the answers the store wrote for shoppers came back.
Then we asked small, exact questions, one at a time. "Do you ship to other countries?" "How much is shipping?" This time, the answers showed up.
Shoppers don't always ask small, exact questions. They ask the way they talk. When a question comes in the broad way, the store looks like it never answered it.
What else we found
When we looked closer, we found more gaps:
- No product description for AI. The product page had a description. But the description AI shopping assistants get, from what the store saved in Shopify, was blank.
- A shipping policy that was just a dot. The whole policy was one character: "."
- A blank in the return policy. It still said "[INSERT RETURN ADDRESS]". That line was meant to be filled in.
- No answer to "How long will it take to get here?" It wasn't on the product page or in the answers the store wrote for AI.
- Answers in only one place. Some answers could reach AI shopping assistants but were not on the product page. AI that only reads the product page, like Claude, never saw them.
None of this is easy to spot from the inside. The store looks fine to a person, and the gaps only show up when you check what AI gets.
Why this matters
When a shopper asks AI about a product, AI answers with what it can find. If it can't find an answer, it won't guess for you. It can point the shopper to a store that gave it one.
This store did more than most. It still lost answers it had already written.
What we can't say yet
This was one check of one product, on one day. We didn't track sales before and after. What we can say is what AI could and couldn't read when we looked.
Is this happening on your store?
Most stores have gaps like these and don't know it. Run the free check to see what AI can read on one of your product pages.
